Skin Cancer Removal & ReconstructionThe primary cause of skin cancer is ultraviolet radiation - most often from the sun, but also from artificial sources like sun lamps and tanning booths. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in New Zealand and the incidence of melanoma is amongst the highest in the world. The Nelson-Marlborough region, with it's clear skies and bright sunshine, has more than its fair share of this problem. What Do I Do If I Notice Any Growths?A visit to your GP is generally the best place to start if you notice any usual growths or changes in moles. Surgical Treatment Of Skin Cancer at our clinicTreating skin cancers can be life saving, but they may leave a patient with less than pleasing cosmetic or functional results. The Olive Institute specialise in the surgical removal of skin cancer growths and cosmetic reconstruction. Depending on the location and severity of the cancer, the consequences may range from a small but unsightly scarring to permanent changes in facial structures such as your nose, ear, eyelids or lip. In such cases, no matter who performs the initial treatment, cosmetic surgery can be an important part of further treatment. Reconstructive techniques can range from a simple scar revision, to skin grafts or flaps, or to a complex transfer of tissue flaps. In the vast majority of cases, the outcome of our surgery is clearance of the cancer and very little sign of the surgery that has been carried out. Our ExperienceSurgical treatment of skin lesions has been an integral part of my training and I have personally removed over a thousand skin cancers so far in my career.
