Botox ~ Available in Nelson and BlenheimAs we get older, facial expressions, stresses, and lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol and the sun begin to have an impact on our appearance, causing fine lines or wrinkles to appear on our faces. There's no fighting age, but we can improve how we look. Botox is a safe, simple, non-surgical procedure which targets and softens wrinkles. What Is BOTOX?BOTOX or 'botulinum toxin' is a natural, purified protein that relaxes the facial muscles which cause problem wrinkles, creating a smooth, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance. How BOTOX worksBotox blocks the signal from the ends of nerves to the muscle fibres. Blocking the signal blocks the movement you are trying to make e.g. a frown. After a few simple injections, the fine facial muscles become relaxed, allowing problem wrinkles to gradually even out. Wrinkles soften, and further creases are prevented. Be aware that BOTOX doesn't 'freeze' your facial expression, but rather softens the lines and, in expert hands, works specifically where it's administered. It is most effective for treating forehead wrinkles, crows feet and frown lines. Our mission is to provide a natural, more youthful appearance without being obvious. How Long Does It Last?Treatment with BOTOX generally lasts for up to four months, depending on the individual. As the effects of BOTOX wear off, the lines will gradually reappear but you will not be worse off than when you first started. Botox does not accumulate in the body. Is BOTOX Suitable for Men?Botox is also popular with men. They too, can suffer from deep frown lines and forehead wrinkles, often caused by stress. Many businessmen prefer the simplicity of BOTOX to leave them looking more refreshed and approachable. The ProcedureThe process is very simple, relatively painless and takes a few minutes. The treatment usually involves 3 - 6 small injections directed at the areas concerned. There is some mild redness at the treament sites which fades within 30 minutes and you can even return to work if you wish. Botox is not instantaneous. It takes 4 - 7 days for the effects to begin and 10 - 14 days for the full effect. Are There Side Effects? In the amounts used for wrinkle therapy, the most common side effects are temporary and localised to the area of injection. These include soreness or mild bruising, (which can be easily covered with makeup), headache and less commonly, you may develop a heavy eyelid lasting 1- 2 weeks. There have been no permanent side effects of BOTOX reported. BOTOX DisclaimerSerious heart problems and serious allergic reactions have been reported rarely. If you think you are having an allergic reaction or other unusual symptoms, such as difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing, call your doctor immediately. The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects. BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered by physicians and is available only by prescription. See the offical BOTOX® website for more information
